Changes to the Skill System

The unique nature of the Polychotomy causes some (knowledge) skills to be redundant, and also makes new skills necessary. The following skills are not part of this campaign setting:

  • Knowledge (geography) – folded into Knowledge (shards)
  • Knowledge (local) – folded into Knowledge (phyles)
  • Knowledge (nobility and royalty) – folded into Knowledge (phyles)
  • Knowledge (the planes) – folded into Knowledge (shards)

In their place, two new Knowledge skills (phyles and shards) are introduced.

Knowledge (phyles) (Int; Trained Only)

This skill represents a character’s familiarity with the various phyles, their motives and agendas, their symbols, the current state of inter-phyle politics, and so on. It is also used for finding out information about humanoids. This skill replaces Knowledge (local) and Knowledge (nobility and royalty).

Knowledge (phyles) is a class skill for Bards, Rogues, Sorcerers.

Knowledge (shards) (Int; Trained Only)

This skill represents a character’s knowledge of the Shards and the links between them. It is also used for finding out information about Outsiders and Elementals. This skill replaces Knowledge (geography) and Knowledge (the planes)

Knowledge (shards) is a class skill for Bards, Clerics, Rangers, and Sorcerers.
